I have a confession to make….
I’m a nervous flyer. I mean a REALLY nervous flyer. There’s something about takeoff and landing that makes me shudder just writing about it. So, I’m always a bit anxious at the airport and during the security check stage of my trip. That said, once the plane is at cruising altitude, I love everything about air travel and feel really fortunate to be able to criss cross the globe to visit friends and family back home in America as much as I do.
This April, my fiancé and I traveled back to Los Angeles to finalize preparations for our upcoming wedding. Flying from Heathrow on a sunny Saturday on Virgin America was the perfect way to get ready for our busy week – every time I’ve flown with Virgin, I’ve been so impressed with the service that I was really thrilled to be flying with them again. We were so excited to be taking the trip that we decided to splurge on Premium Economy seats and I was really looking forward to testing them out.
We arrived at our check-in desk right on time and were greeted warmly by the agent who began the typical process of weighing and tagging our bags and printing our boarding passes. It was only then that we began to realize that there was something a bit different and special about our trip that morning…
When our agent stood up and excused herself, saying that she needed to get us some Upper Class bag tags, we looked at each other in confusion. “Did you do this?” I whispered to my fiancé, wondering if he’d surprised me with an upgrade. “No, did you???” he whispered back right as the agent returned, Upper Class tags in hand. She quickly and efficiently explained that we would be sitting in Upper Class that day and began explaining to us how to access the private Upper Class security line.
We looked at each other in disbelief and also tried to hide how ecstatic we both were, thanked the agent and practically skipped over to the security area with glee…that NEVER happens at airports anymore, does it? What a fantastic surprise!
Stay tuned for my next post about the amazing service and fantastic flight on Virgin Atlantic that rates right up there as one of my most favorite travel memories to date!
